3D Fake Flower Wall Art

Fake flower art is a trend that I have been seeing for the past couple of months on different crafting websites. Depending on the time you want to spend making your fake flower DIY, the supplies you want to use, and so forth, there seems to be a fake flower project for everyone. Due to all the fake flower projects that I have been seeing, I decided to come up with my own version. So today, I will be showing you how to create your own 3D Fake Flower Wall Art!

Now most of the fake flower projects I have seen online, have been on 3D canvases. To try something different and to make the DIY a bit cheaper (cost-wise), the project I am making today will be on a flat 9 by 12 canvas. However, to get the 3D look that we want, the vase is made from paper straws and some foam board! Basically, we will be making half of a vase that looks really cool no matter what angle you are viewing the art piece from. With that being said, all the supplies in this DIY can be customized to fit your design taste. For example, you can change the size of the canvas, type of flowers, and the color of the paper straws.

Needless to say, this project is super simple to make and would look so cute as part of a gallery wall!

Step 1: Cut a piece of foam board that is 1 inch wide by 5 ½ inches long. Then glue that piece of foam board towards the bottom of your canvas, forming an arch. Once that piece has been glued on, trace around it onto another piece of foam board. The shape that you trace should be half of a circle. When that piece has been cut out, glue it to the bottom of the ”arch” that you made with the first piece of foam board.

This will form the bottom of your vase.

Step 2: Cut out another piece of foam board that is 1 inch wide by 5 ½ inches long. Then glue that piece into place (just like step 1) 6 inches above the bottom of your vase.

This will form the top of your vase.

Step 3: Glue your paper straws around the arches you made in steps 1 and 2. Make sure you cut off any extra (hanging over) straw from the bottom while you are gluing.

Step 4: If you want your flowers to have more ”body” or to look fuller, then I would suggest crumbling up some tissue paper and gluing it into the middle of your canvas. By doing this you will be creating a small platform for some of your flowers to go on. This will help ”raise” your flowers off the canvas and give it a more 3D look. However, this step is optional.

At this point, you can begin to glue each of your flowers onto your canvas. There is no right or wrong way to do this, so just have fun! With that being said, just make sure you don’t forget your leaves. This is because the leaves really bring the whole piece together and help to fill in any little gaps.

Once all your fake flowers have been added on, you’re ready to display your new wall art!

I loved how this 3D fake flower wall art turned out!

When looking at this project, there are so many different ways you could either use it or incorporate it into some sort of function. For example, this could be used as wedding décor, it could be a Mother’s Day gift, it could be given to that friend who struggles to keep real plants alive, or could be made into a welcome sign. The possibilities are really endless!

If you made this 3D Fake Flower Wall Art, what flowers or flower combo would you use?
