Light switches are most likely less visible for some of us. That doesn’t mean we don’t have to take them into account. On the contrary, they are as important as the furniture is, or any other decorative item in your room. Every detail counts so why don’t you let the switches say something about you?

1. Book spine light switch cover

If you have a home library, it would be a shame to spoil the décor of this sacred room with an ordinary switch. Books can also be used as decorative items, so, in this case, I believe a book spine light switch would be more appropriate. You only need a simple light switch cover, glue and 2 or 3 book spines (depending on the size switch). Use an X-acto knife to get the edges even.

2. Picture frame light switch.

Put a picture frame over a light switch and give it a completely different look. It’s one of the cheapest methods and you won’t have to waste a lot of time for this project. All you need is an old frame and some glue. If the frame is larger than the switch, don’t panic! You can find a way to stick it to the wall or you can use a nail.

Who doesn’t like travelling? Many of us already have dreams about visiting some places and how to enjoy their beauty. Are you one of us? Then share your wish with your guests, in a creative way. Stick a map on your light switch! It’s your choice: you can pick a place you want to visit, a place you’ve already seen, your city’s map or even a “treasure map” for your children.

5. Seashells light switch.

Bring some summer freshness indoors using seashells and aquarium gravel. In addition, you will need a hot glue gun. First you must take the cover out. Use small seashells if you want to make sure there is enough space for the light switch to turn on/off. You can apply larger seashells on the corners of the cover. If you still have some free space, fill it with aquarium rocks.

6. Use polymer clay.

Grab your kids and have some fun together! This is your chance to see how creative they are. Simply shape various Fimo figurines, or maybe you should try something else, like creating textures by using small objects to press into the clay. 7. Painted light switch.

This is another cheap method to change the look of your switches. At least for a moment, try to be the new Dali, Van Gogh, Picasso or any other favorite painter. If you don’t have a lot of inspiration, try abstract painting. Surely the artist in you will come to light! Pay attention to the colors you choose. Try to use some that are already part of the décor.You can add a layer of hairspray to secure the painting. Good luck!

8. Use scrapbook or decorative paper.

Congratulations, you just found a way to use the decorative paper you kept in the drawer or quite some time. For this project you will need a plastic switch plate, glue, a ruler, a pencil and an X-acto knife. Cut the paper, but make sure that it would be 1 ½ inches larger than the actual size of the switch plate. Put the switch plate on the paper (face down). Apply glue on the edges of the paper and start folding side and inside flaps. Wait a few minutes until the paper will stick completely.

9. Star Wars light switch.

17. Write a quote on your light switch.

It can be a quote from a favorite book or film, or just something you believe in. The others will be glad to discover things they didn’t knew about you and what defines you.

You can say this is a golden idea! You will need a plastic light switch cover, one sheet of gold leaf, soft paint brush, foam brush and gold leaf sizing.
