Gift wrapping is not something everyone is fond of. Those who aren’t stoked about this simply let someone else do it for them but those who take pleasure in taking care of this themselves always look for new and innovative ideas and designs they can try. These alternative gift wrapping ideas are full of inspiration.
Instead of the usual store-bought ribbon bow try instead to make this accent detail yourself. Don’t know how to tie a bow with ribbon? No problem, we can show you. To make a classic bow, first place the gift face down on the ribbon and center it. Wrap the ends around the gift so that they twist around one another and run perpendicular to the original line. Pull the ends and flip the gift over. Tie a knot at the center and then make two bunny ear loops. Cross the left one over the right one, bend the left loop around and pull it through the hole underneath.
You could also make a separate bow for your gift using the same type of ribbon you’ve wrapped around the gift. You only need a small portion and some clear tape. Tape the two ends of the ribbon at the center and then take a smaller piece of ribbon and wrap it around the center in the opposite direction.{found on brunchatsaks}.
Instead of the usual cardboard tag, make a wooden one which would look a lot more interesting. You need a branch, a drill with a small drill bit, yarn, twine or ribbon, sandpaper and a saw. Cut thin slices of the branch, 1/8” thick. Sand them and then drill a small hole in each one. Run the yarn or ribbon through and attach the tag to your gift.
Instead of a bow, try something different. For example, use a button. It’s really easy and practical actually, especially if you choose a large button with four holes at the center so you can run the thread through and make a perfectly symmetrical design.{found on craftandcreativity}.
And instead of the store-bought wrapping paper, you can make your own. Take a long strip of uncoated wrapping paper and put it face up. Then take some acrylic paint and a paint brush. Flick the paint brush a few feet away from the paper and you’ll create a unique pattern. If you have leftover paper, you can check out some interesting wrapping paper storage ideas.{found on goforthcreative}.
Or you can give up the bow and the buttons and use tiny pom-poms to decorate your gift. Use glue dots to attach all the little pom-poms to the gift and create any pattern and design you want. Use a single color or combine several.{found on popcosmo}.
You can also decorate a gift in other simple ways. For example, once you’ve wrapped the gift in paper, take a stick of glue and some glitter and make glittery polka dots.
An even simple idea and one that’s also not as messy is to use a stamp. Maybe you can have one custom made. Just stamp the gift as many times you want creating an irregular pattern.{found on spalvotasdryzuotas}.
Another idea is to decorate gift boxes. For example, once you have a box of the right shape and size, apply glue with a brush all over its surface and then dip it in glitter. The glitter will stick to the glue. Allow it to dry completely and then you can attach a tag if you want.{found on forthemakers}.
Want your gift to look delicate and feminine? Then use lace. It’s pretty much like using regular ribbon. Wrap the dashing lace around your gift and make a bow at the center or simply leave it like that, with the ends hanging on the sides.{found on boxwoodclippings}.
Also, you can make your gifts look chic and stylish by decorating them with fresh flowers. For example, use cherry blossoms if it’s spring, conifers if it’s winter and so on. Find seasonal flowers and turn them into ornaments for your gifts. Keep the gift simple by using brown paper and simple twine.{found on lechatgourmandbyalixia}.
If you want to personalize your gifts even more, choose a special image to use when wrapping them. When you tie the twine or ribbon, insert the photo at the center. It can replace the bow if you want. Or, if you don’t want to use a photo, put a small branch or a flower in its place.{found on artifactuprising}.
Don’t these paper feather look simply amazing? And they’re easy to make too. You can use a template or come up with a design of your own. Use the feather to decorate your gifts and they’ll look special and wonderful.{found on liagriffith}.
Use yarn in lots of different colors and tie the pieces around the gift to obtain a design similar to this one. The secret is in the knots. They have to be perfectly aligned. You can mix and match the different colors however you want. For example, you can create a rainbow.
Another fun and interesting way to use colored twine is in a woven grid. Basically you use two different colors and you let them intersect with one another forming this pattern. You can hide the knots on the other side of the gift or use tape to keep the twine attached to the paper.{found on oipaketti}.
If the gift is for a kid, a really fun idea is to use white paper to wrap it and to tape some crayons to the wrapped gifts. Stamp the words “color me” on a corner of the box and let the kids tear off the crayons and have fun coloring all over the box before the gift is opened.{found on linesacross}.
Eliminate the need for a tag by making typographic gift wrap. You need brown craft paper, a book you don’t mind ruining, a utility knife, a pencil, scissors, alphabet templates and a glue stick. This is one of the more complex projects on the lift so those interested might want to sit down at their craft tables to avoid making a mess.{found on manmadediy}.
For an elegant look, decorate your gift with black and gold. You can use thin tree branches, leaves and acorn tops. If you’re using black wrapping paper, you can spray paint all these ornaments gold and use twine to attach them to the gift box.{found on itsprettynice}.
For the Christmas gifts you can try something playful and seasonal like these cute and funny red-nosed reindeers. The noses are small red pom-poms glued to the paper and the reindeers are printed on.{found on splashofsomething}.
And for Easter you have cute little bunnies to work with. Make bunny gift tags for your gifts. You can use a template and print it onto card stock, then glue it onto the gift. You can even make a ribbon bow to tie around the bunny’s neck.{found on inmyownstyle}.
