The staircase landing refers to the space at the top or at the bottom of the stairs. It can also be the space between flights of stairs, in the case of most staircases. Those are areas that usually remain unused and become dead space. But there’s no real reason why they should. That space can be turned into libraries, galleries, reading nooks, storage areas, etc. You just need to be creative.

Transforming those spaces is actually not that difficult. The most difficult part is deciding what you want to do with it. Whether you want to use that space for storage or turn it into a gallery where you can display your artwork and decorations, it’s completely up to you. But before you get to do anything permanent, take into consideration the amount of space you have available as well as your needs. If you need some inspiration imagining how that space would look like, take a look at these examples.

It could happen for you to not be quite satisfied with your home office and to want to change its location. In that case you could organize a nice work area near the window of your staircase landing. You could also use the space around it for storage.

Another very nice idea would be to turn the landing into a cozy reading nook. Of course, you need a window for that. The project doesn’t have to be overly complicated. If you also have some extra space you can include a small bookcase that you can fill with your favorite books. There are multiple other ideas that you could use. You can also come up with your own design.
