The core of any home is the living room, in whatever form it may take. Every living room is different and in each case the design is related to the type of ambiance and the manner in which it’s meant to be used. Setting priorities is important for ultimately creating a living room that you’re comfortable in. At the same time, finding inspiration in other completed projects and designs is very useful as well so today we’re having a look at a few living rooms that we think have some pretty interesting designs.

One of the first things that need to be decided when planning the design and decor of a living room is the color palette. Using bold colors can be super fun but it’s important to make sure that the colors don’t clash and that they complement each other harmoniously. There are tons of colors to choose from and a lot of them are either very common or very boring. Something a bit more unconventional could potentially make all the difference. This for example is a feng shui living room with a quirky design created by Snøhetta.

If you’re aiming to create a refined and luxurious living room design, having a suitable layout to start with definitely helps. A high ceiling is a cool feature which looks amazing and allows you to opt for glamorous chandeliers and oversized pendant lamps. It could be nice to try an eclectic design which combines some modern and traditional details. You can emphasize the unique style with an accent wall, artwork and various little details. This space right here was designed by Janine Stone & Co.

There are a few basic tricks that you can use in order to make your living room look just right. For example, if the goal is to create a welcoming and cozy living room you can make use of warm colors such as brown and gold combined with wood. Natural wood is known for adding warmth to spaces and being super versatile. Check out this method being applied in a living room designed by Colombe.

A rather interesting strategy is to fill the living room with color and pattern. Of course, it shouldn’t be done in a chaotic manner. The different colors and patterns need to complement each other so that the room doesn’t become too busy. That’s tricky to do seeing how easy it is to go overboard. There’s one design that we can offer as an example in this case, a living room created by Lucinda Loya.

Isn’t this living room looking just marvelous? We love the mustard yellow walls and the chocolate brown leather sofa. These are just two elements that stand out but there’s so much more to admire here, like that oversized floor lamp, all the table lamps scattered across the room, all the various vintage accents and the beautiful arched windows.

Using different nuances of the same color or similar tones can look quite nice in a living room. Take for instance this space designed by Elisa Ossino Studio. The most eye-catching detail is the bright red fireplace surround followed by the sofa. To tone down the crazy hue, a comfy accent chair with light grey upholstery and a curved back was placed alongside it and looks amazing on the patterned floor.

The lush tropical gardens just outside the large windows of this living room look amazing and become the focal point of attention. That’s why it’s really great that the room decor is so simple and breezy. The neutral color palette is soothing and fresh and the warm wooden accents complement the entire setup beautifully. This was the work of interior designer Hollie Bowden.

If you’re aiming for an eclectic living room decor that looks chic and quirky then consider mixing a few vivid colors with some neutrals. One of our favorite designs of this kind was created by Kimille Taylor. The purple living room curtains form the perfect backdrop for the accent chairs and the large potted plant. Of course, the focal point would have to be the mirrored coffee table.

Architect Sergey Makhno came up with a very interesting design concept for this house. The goal was to combine Ukrainian and Japanese influences throughout the house and the results are amazing. The living room is a double height space with a huge gallery wall, a variety of rustic accents and a unique live edge coffee table. The clay fireplace and the hanging pendant lamps are really cool and serve as focal points for the room.

As mentioned before, every living room design is unique and there’s a lot that we can learn from each and every one of them, like the fact that mixing in lots of different textures creates a very cozy ambiance. The focal point of this room is the curved sofa in a beautiful pastel pink shade, accessorized with lots of throw pillows. Everything else blends in. This charming setup was created by studio Purveyor Design.
