An original and unique interior is defined not only by the pieces used to make it but also by the ability of finding new ways of including them in the décor and ways of repurposing all sorts of items. It’s important to be creative and to think outside of the box. You can repurpose and recycle almost anything. Today we’re going to focus on the yardstick. Apparently, it’s well-defined item with a specific use but this doesn’t mean it can’t be used for something else. Here are a few examples that demonstrate that.

If you have some old storage crates that are not exactly in their best shape, you can just dismantle them, keep the useful parts and replace the rest with yardsticks. It’s simple and it’s creative. You can also use old yardsticks for another similar project. This is a serving tray and, as you can see, the bottom is composed of yardstick portions. It’s an extremely simple project and all you have to do is figure out the dimensions you want for the hanger, cut the yardstick and attach some hooks to it. This project requires a little more time and more resources than the previous ones. It’s a yardstick buffet with the front area covered with old yardsticks. So if you have a cabinet that is structurally strong and still usable but that lacks the charm in terms of appearance, you can give it a makeover and you can use this example as inspiration.{found on cornerhouseblog}.

You can also use yardsticks to create an original and interesting backsplash for the kitchen countertops. First make the measurements and cut the yardsticks to size and then cut a piece of cardboard the length of the cabinets. Make sure the height is that of four yardsticks. If you’re not really big on this type of projects you can try something simpler and smaller. For example, you can make a yardstick box. Cut them into 15’’ pieces for the side and 5’’ pieces for the smaller parts. Glue the sides and use nails to keep them secure. It’s very common for people to have old pieces of furniture in the house or in the garage. If you have an old chair or stool that still looks strong and durable but doesn’t look that nice on the outside, maybe you can give it a makeover.
