I know it, you know it, we all know it. There is simply not a better resource than burlap when it comes to Fall-time DIY craft and decoration projects. I mean, the stuff is organically textural, earthy-toned, and downright rustic – a perfect complement for Fall weather and activities, no matter what your typical home décor style might be. Burlap Pillow Slipcovers.

This excellent tutorial shows how to make burlap slipcovers for your pillows (inside or outside, really) for this Fall season. The great news is, you don’t even have to do anything to your pillow otherwise – just throw the cover on for a month or two every Fall, then take it off when the snow starts. I like the customizable design aspect, like the polka dots and/or monogram.

Burlap Leaf Mantel Scarf.

Have you ever thought about using burlap to mimic the season’s shapes found in nature? This leaf mantel scarf made out of burlap is detailed and pretty, and it provides a lovely setting for other seasonal mantelscape pieces. This wreath tutorial uses a wire wreath from any craft store’s floral department and burlap ribbon. I suppose one could make her own burlap ribbon using regular burlap, but buying the 4” ribbon ready-made would save a lot of time and trouble. There is something that’s simultaneously organic and sophisticated about a burlap table runner. I like how this one uses a slightly creamier colored burlap – it sets off the dishware well and lightens the entire tablescape. Burlap Crow Pillow.

If we haven’t established that ravens/crows make a wonderful addition to one’s Fall décor, let’s do so now. This tutorial shows not only how to sew this simple pillow cover, but also how to embellish it with a crow silhouette. (I don’t want to give it away, but I’ll give you a one-word hint: Sharpie. Framed Burlap Message.

Ideal for a mantel or any wall hanging, framed burlap letters are both interesting and somewhat whimsical. I love the juxtaposition of the mismatched ornate frames (albeit simply painted in white) and the rough stenciled burlap here. Plus, who can resist some fancied up burlap set atop a bunch of sticks? Burlap Harvest Garland.

The great thing about burlap is that it can either last for a long time or can be, shall we say, disposable. If you choose to DIY a garland similar to this one, you can also choose if you want it to last years and years (take care to address the fray-able burlap edges) or just this season. Burlap-Wrapped Candle.

If all you have is 5 minutes and you want to make things easy on yourself, this festive burlap decoration is right up your alley. Using hot glue, simply attach burlap ribbon (or regular burlap cut to size) around a candle. Burlap Topiary Tree.

A burlap topiary tree is great for any season, but I especially like it for Fall because it adds height to the season’s décor that has a tendency to be on the short side (e.g., pumpkins, candles, etc.).
