I’m crazy about decorating with flamingos! What’s not to love about these colorful, elegant birds? They just scream “summer!” to me. With inexpensive plastic flamingos so easy to find this time of year, it’s time to get crafting with them! Let me show you how simple it is to turn plastic pink flamingos into metallic flower planters for your home.

Step one: Use a permanent marker to trace an oval shape on the back of the plastic flamingo. This will be your cutting line.
Step two: Use a sharp craft knife to cut along the line drawn in step one. (Optional: To make the process a bit easier, heat the plastic with a heating tool or hair dryer to soften the hard plastic. It will cut like butter when it’s warm!)
Step three: Paint the beak and eyes of the flamingo with white metallic paint. Let the first application dry before adding the next layer of paint.
Step four: Mix 3 parts red metallic paint with one part white metallic paint to create a beautiful coral hue. Paint the flamingos with this color. Let them dry completely.
Step five: Use the black metallic paint to color the ends of the beak. Also add pupils to the eyes of the birds.
Step six: The holes in the legs of the birds are perfect for drainage, so you could fill them with soil and use them as planters. I filled the cavity of the birds with styrofoam and then pressed fabric flowers into the foam.
These metallic planter flamingos are a beautiful, colorful addition to any garden! They would also make lovely party decor. Have fun crafting and creating fun flamingo planters for your home this summer!
